James Lafferty talks Nathan and Haley, Season 8 possibility

After a few months on hiatus, “One Tree Hill” returns this Monday (April 26) with the final four episodes of Season 7.

As of now, the series has not yet been renewed for an eighth year, so what happens in these next few hours should be interesting.
Korbi TV caught up with “OTH” star James Lafferty (Nathan Scott) to get a little scoop on what we can expect…
Last we saw Nathan, his mother-in-law had just lost her battle with cancer. Will much of your upcoming storyline revolve around Nathan helping Haley and Jamie through that loss?
JL: It’s actually Nathan and Jamie helping Haley through it. She’s obviously the one that’s hit the hardest by [her mother's death]. Her and [her sister] Quinn. So it’s something that is going to pull the Scott family unit tighter.

10 Minutes with One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty

Back in 2003, James Lafferty was just another fresh-faced 18-year-old and One Tree Hill was just another WB teen soap opera. But seven seasons later, both Lafferty and OTH are still on the air, having survived the move to The CW in 2006 and the show’s loss of stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton in 2009. Lafferty’s character, Nathan Scott, started out as the cocky star of Tree Hill High School’s basketball team; now he’s a husband, father, and professional NBA player. I spoke to Lafferty about Nathan’s growth, his own growth, and perhaps most importantly, his hair.

TV.com: When One Tree Hill began, you were a teenager. How do you think you’ve changed over the last seven years?
James Lafferty: That’s a big question. I mean, how does anybody change from the time that they’re 18 till they’re 25? Everything kind of changes. You see the world much differently, and you get your priorities in order a little bit more. I think it’s been great that the show has been a constant in my life since I was 18. I’ve been able to learn and grow with the show. It’s helped me define my work ethic and turned me from a boy into a man. You know what I mean? …And I’ve had opportunities to do things that I never thought I would do. I never thought I would direct television, and I’ve got a couple episodes under my belt now.

Will One Tree Hill’s Season Finale Feel Like the Series Ender?

Although viewers are still waiting to hear whether One Tree Hill will get another season, at least one wait is over: After a two-month hiatus, the CW series is back Monday at 8/7c for this season’s four final episodes. James Lafferty, who plays Nathan Scott, one of the only original characters left,  tells TVGuide.com there are “really gratifying moments for those fans that have hung in there.” Read on to see what Lafferty has to say about the season’s last episodes, including some big decisions that will be made and where the series stands at the end of the season.

TVGuide.com: Before the show’s hiatus, Haley’s mom died. Will she and Nathan still be dealing with the loss when it returns?
James Lafferty: Yes, absolutely. There’s definitely a grieving process. Not to make it sound like it’ll be all gloom, but that’s Haley’s journey … and she’s going to need help and that help is going to come from her family unit.
